opening squeeze

I finished hanging and cleaning (and painting) the works about five minutes before five, just in time for the first early arrivers (Thanks for the bubbles and flower Bronny and family). Then had to awkwardly shuffle while others arrived as I waited for Rosie to bring down the food, drinks, and a change of clothes for me.

Thanks to everyone who came along, and listened to my awkward speech in which I forgot to thank everyone but Rosie. I meant to say how vital my Dad was in conceiving and building the sliding wall panels, along with the window display wall. Also, Hannah for helping on the day and evening, Bronny and Simon for their help and lending a painting and ladder, all the ladies of my family for coming from the wopwops to visit (Mum, Nana, Aunty, Cuzz, and Sis for washing up and bringing the boys), Siren for being a choice framer, Jono and Aaron for transporting food, Blue Belle for the pizza... And I did manage to thank Fabian and Pat for providing their art to help fill the gallery.

I spent two nights drawing this intricate map of Island bay and the surrounding areas, then got it to Thomas at Artisan Screenprinters just in time to have 30 printed for the opening. 24hrs later and we're all out. So here they are, and were. More coming soon...

Ka kite ano Stichbury

I finally took the Stichbury signage down from the shopfront. If you want to know where Miss Stichbury has moved to, she's packed up all her gear and gone into cyberspace, like the Lawnmower Man. You can find her and her choice clothes at stichbury.com.

After some toing and froing over different tints of white paint, we got two coats done. One more to go today.

Clearing the cobwebs

A dittybox is a small box used by seafarers to hold their keepsakes, small tools, and mementos.

After toying with the name "Elephand Vs Peanut", my partner Rosie and I decided on dittybox as the name for our gallery and studio in Island Bay. I've taken over the lease at 139 The Parade, now I just need to paint the walls, and put something on them. Rosie's knitting up a fluffy storm of tea coseys, and I'm getting messy with oil paints.
